NALT Notes—April 2025

Broadleaf Preserve, Pink Lady's Slipper
Broadleaf Preserve, Trillium

  • The main trail system has been mapped. The Conservancy is beginning to mark unique habitats and features, such as a recently discovered bog on the property.
  • Signs are being planned in area’s hiking trails. These signs will include a site plan map with a “you are here” indicator, a safety warning to the public, and identify reference trail blazes.
  • The Longcliff team has installed erosion control devices (sediment fencing and sediment control ponds or settling ponds, etc.) to ensure runoff does not negatively effect the Preserve.
  • Longcliff is partnering with NALT to reclaim some large oak, hickory, and pine logs from the developmental clearing for milling to use on the conservation area.
  • Longcliff and NALT are preparing a plant rescue for areas to be cleared for development, identifying “uncommon” or “specimen” plant species that would good candidates for rescue and replanting. Longcliff developers will have grading crews excavate and transplant them for “healing in” at a yet to be identified location on-site.
