First Family Features

Thank you for exploring plans for a new HTF blog series, First Family Features.

It’s been very rewarding for me to dig into this community’s past through the blogs on the Stories page; and even when a story is already well-known locally, I try to present it from a fresh perspective, weaving stories into stories to find the patterns and connections they make across time.

Now I’d like to focus on learning the stories of Transylvania County’s “First Families”—the multi-generational groups who were here long ago and in many cases remain here today.
